I’ve Been There…

Hello! I’m Marisa and I’m here to provide you with support as the mom of an autistic child with the insight as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). As a parent, I know first hand about the challenges, I understand the feelings of isolation, and how others don’t truly understand what you are going through.

As an SLP with over 20 years of experience, I provide a very unique perspective as both a parent and an SLP. I empathize with the challenges you may face and I know about the strategies that will help your child the most.

You’re In the Right Place if…

  • Seeking practical advice and supports for raising a child with autism.
  • Looking for insight from a fellow parent who understands the challenges and triumphs of this journey.
  • Searching for a community that offers empathy and shared experiences.
  • Wanting to learn about the latest resources, tools, and communication strategies from a certified SLP.
  • An educator or therapist seeking strategies from a parent’s perspective to enhance your profession.

My Entire Life Led To This Moment…

I went into the field of Speech Language Pathology because I wanted to make a difference. However, when my son was diagnosed with autism, I started to view things in a whole new way. I started researching strategies, tips, and interventions to help him. Around that time, I also started my TPT Store: The Artsy SLP.  I found that I greatly enjoyed designing artsy and creative materials for fellow educators. However, I soon pivoted to creating resources to use with my son; because I had difficulty finding the materials that I needed. I was able to find my passion and both help my son at the same time.

Experience…

I’ve worked in a variety of settings that include Early Childhood Intervention, Home Health with adults, and in the school system. I currently work in the high school setting. My passion is helping others and providing them with a voice.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and my Master’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. I’m certified with the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) with my Certificate of Clinical Competence. I hold my teacher license and state certification.

Most recently, I was featured on the top 1.5% podcast Embracing Autism, where I talk about Autism and AAC.

Navigating Neurodiversity…

Although my son is in elementary school, my work with students at the secondary level allows me to see the “big picture.”  I’m able to see first hand how the decisions that you make today impacts a child in the future. So let’s navigate neurodiversity together, from childhood to adulthood.
